Hello! I'm Natasha Nakhle.
"I launched this project in early 2022 as part of the Peace Innovators Scholarship and Mentoring Program ,a partnership program of The Ripple Effect Education, Kindred Credit Union and The Kindred Credit Union Centre for Peace Advancement.
The inspiration for this project came to me during the COVID-19 pandemic, when I was spending an increased amount of time using social media to connect with my peers. I noticed that the interactions between youth online often lack the compassion that is so deep-rooted in human nature. Far too often, I saw people being torn down in comment sections, all for a cheap laugh. It alarmed me that this kind of disconnect was so acceptable in today's culture. It's important to remember that every post on social media came from someone; a person - no different than you or I - is on the receiving end of that.
I have noticed in personal experience that experiences on social media have been incredibly influential on face-to-face encounters. The lack of understanding, and intolerance for differences encouraged by trends like "trolling" and "cancel culture", has caused major disconnect in the way that we interact with each other in our everyday lives.
I believe it is important to open spaces for discussion on these issues in order to increase awareness on unethical uses of social media and prevent subsequent mental health deterioration. "
